Mariana Fernández is a writer and curator living in New York. Her work focuses on performance and video art, particularly from Latin America. She received an MA in Art History from Williams College and a BA in Journalism and Cultural Studies from New York University. She has held curatorial positions at Performa, the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), and the Clark Art Institute. She is an editor of Calder's Clouds / Las nubes de Calder, a forthcoming bilingual publication centered on Calder's engagement with sound and performance through his monumental Acoustic Ceiling (1953) in the Central University of Caracas, Venezuela. Her criticism appears in publications such as Artforum, BOMB, e-flux Criticism, frieze, and X-TRA
